State Fire Service Organisation, Assam has completed 50 (fifty) glorious years of service to the nation as well as the people of Assam in the year 2009  on 13 November.

As a part of the Golden Jubilee year, year long celebration of State Fire Service Organisation, Assam, Fire Awareness programme was taken up in all Districts and Sub-Divisional Headquarters towns where public in large number participated with vigor and enthusiasm to learn the Fire Fighting techniques and their role during fire incidents and other disaster.

Essay Competition: There was also an essay competition organized by the State Fire Service Organisation, Assam from Degree level to University level students and from class VII to Higher Secondary level.

The subject was:  “Role of Public in fire and emergency situation”.

The following students were selected for various prizes by the Judges.

Higher Section:

  5. Shri Anjan Roy Choudhury.  - Consolation Rs. 2,000/-

  1. Shri Anushri Barman.   - 1st Rs. 3,000/-
    Salt Brook Academy, Dibrugarh.
  2. Smti Satyaki Roy.   - 2nd Rs. 2,000/-

All the above prizes were given away by Smti Manju Borah, noted film Producer and Director and Smti Rose, Joint Secretary, Manipur Government.

The concluding function of the Golden Jubilee celebration was held in a befitting manner on 13th November, 2009 premises of the State Fire Service Organisation, Assam, with the following programme.

  • Flag Hoisting: - Unit flag was hoisted at 07.00 A.M. by Shri Sankar Barua, IPS, Director General of Police, Assam. 
  • Colorful Procession: - At 07.30 A.M. colorful road procession was taken out. It was flagged off by Shri Sankar Barua, IPS, Director General of Police, Assam and  participated by a large number of students of Guwahati and cultural procession of different communities and groups highlighting the rich tradition of North East.  Bodo, Rava, Missing, Dewri, Jumur, Kamrupia Dhulia, Bihu dances and Jikir along with the Police Band from 4th A.P.Bn., Kahilipara, Guwahati was displayed during the procession.
  • Art Competition: - At 10.00 A.M. there was an on the spot Art Competition on the subject “Fire is a source of energy”. The participants of this Art competition were school students of Guwahati from class VI to VIII.
    The Art competition was inaugurated by renowned Artist and National award recipient Shri Nil Pawan Baruah of Assam. In this Art competition the following artists were  awarded the different prizes.

           1. Realm Phangcho   - 1st Rs. 3,000/-
               Pragjyotish School, Maligaon, Guwahati.

           2. Shaswati Devi.  - 2nd Rs. 2,000/- 
               West Shantipur (Bhutnath), Guwahati.

           3. Sayani Saha Poddar. - 3rd Rs. 1,000/-
               Lachit Nagar, Byelane - 9, Guwahati.

           4. Debika Sarma.  - Consolation Rs. 500/-
               Modern High School. R.G.B. Road, Guwahati.

           5. Danchana Barma.  - Consolation Rs. 500/-
               Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Silpukhuri, Guwahati.

  • Exhibition: - The State Fire Service Organisation, Assam organized a Photo and equipment exhibition on this occasion. In this exhibition, the evolution of Fire Fighting equipment and appliances since old age to modern age was shown through photographs. Fire Fighting and Fire Awareness programme have also been exhibited in the photo gallery. Besides various equipments used in Fire Fighting were displayed for the public viewing. This photo gallery was inaugurated by Smti Manju Borah, renowned Director & Producer of Assamese Film.
  • Seminar: - A national level seminar was organized with the following renowned personalities on the subject like “Role of Fire & Emergency Service in the Disaster Management with special reference to the North East".
  1. Dr. Dulal Goswami.
    Professor & Head Department of Environment Science, Guwahati University.
  2. Er. Anup Kr. Mitra, FIE
    Retired Secretary to the Govt.of Assam, Water Resource Department.
  3. Dr. Chandan Mahanta.
    Head of Centre for Environment and Professor in Civil  Engineering Department, IIT, Guwahati.
  4. Dr. Pradip Sarma.
    Selection Grade Lecturur in the Department of Geography, Cotton College, Guwahati.

Besides the above panelists, Shri D.K.Shami, Dy. Fire Adviser, Govt.of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi was the moderator and addressed the Key Note.The seminar was graced by the following dignitaries :

  1. Shri S.C.Das, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Govt.of Assam, Home & Political Department, Dispur.
  2. Shri H.S. Das, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Govt.of Assam, Finance Department, Dispur.
  3. Dr. Mitam Barooah, FRCS Ed., FCEM (UK), Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Birmingham, UK.
  4. Director of Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram Fire & Emergency Services.

Moreover Army Officers and men and Fire Officers of State Fire Service Organisation, Assam and representative of Industrial Organisations were present as audience.

On the occasion of Golden Jubilee of State Fire Service Organisation, Assam, one Souvenir was released by Shri S.C.Das, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Govt.of Assam, Home & Political Department, Dispur and newly created Web-site of the State Fire Service Organisation, Assam was inaugurated by Shri H.S. Das, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Govt.of Assam, Finance Department, Dispur.

Cultural Programme - At the end of the day there was a cultural programme which was inaugurated by Shri Ratan Lahkar, renowned Director  & Producer of Mobile Kohinoor Theatre Group and recipient of National Award.

In this cultural programme, the Ex-Directors and retired Fire Officers of the State Fire Service Organisation, Assam were honored by Shri D.K.Bora, IPS, Addl. Director General of Police & Director of Fire Service, Assam with one Gamocha, Endi chadar, Memento and flower banquet etc.

Shri Prabhat Sarma, Sangeet Natak Academy awardee presented ‘Debagandhar”, and orchestra of Assamese folk instruments.

Smti Tarali Sarma, winner of the best female singer in the 2004 National Film award presented few scintillating songs. Besides her renowned singer  Dikshu also entertained the audience with his members.

A large variety of dance numbers were also presented  by various artists and participants.
